What is PDF?

PDF stands for the Portable Document format. It is a document standard that has been created by Adobe in 1993. As of today PDF has become the most widely used document standard worldwide and you can read any PDF file on any computer and any operating system. The PDF standard defines text, tables, images and links that can be created in a PDF file.

What is JPG?

The JPEG (pronounced “jay-peg”) standard is a way to compress images efficently. JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, which was the name of the committee that created the standard. With the JPEG standard you can compress full-color or gray-scale images of natural, realworld scenes. The JPEG compression works particularly well on images and photographs encountered in the real world (such as people, plants, patterns etc.). JPEG does not work well for simple graphics (like line drawings, lettering, simple cartoons), however.
With JPEG you can compress only still images, but a related and extended standard allows the compression of movies. This standard is called MPEG, dealing with motion pictures.
